Highlights of last week included my flatmate, Miguel le Singe, dropping in to murder a pint after a 14 hour shift; a remarkable backhanded compliment from a girl who was trying to excuse herself and ended up saying, “I’ve got really terrible taste in music, but I really like what you’ve been playing tonight”; a pleasant contrast to the heathen harridan who turned round during KRAAK & SMAAK to inform me, “this is sh!t”; meeting a bloke called Steve who’s a comedian touring with Steve Coogan; two girls, right at the back, waltzing incongruously to YOUNG KNIVES; being rewarded with cider by the boss for playing MARCUS NIKOLAI; a very considered bloke politely requesting PINK FLOYD and feeling a bit sheepish that I couldn’t oblige; and, after a generally quiet night for The Eagle, still finishing the evening with a random bunch of people who didn’t know each other, dancing until 1am.

First plays for MIRACLE FORTRESS: maybe lately, LITTLE BOOTS: stuck on repeat, KRAAK & SMAAK feat. It’s very sexuelle, yes?” A couple waltzing to New Order; a lot of love for New Zealand’s fourth most popular digi-folk paradists, FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS; a bald bloke, very excited about NEW FAST AUTOMATIC DAFFODILS: big, who bought it in Manchester on 12″ in 1990; my friend, Hardcore Steff, coming down with a friend after a wine tasting; Baby Ben on a hot date; and my sister making an unheard of second appearance in as many weeks, with Pete, Ed and Dan.

The Firegathering is a little gem of a festival, nestled in the Sussex countryside. Bringing together top quality acts and a beautiful atmosphere for those lucky enough to attend. Experience that unique element you just won’t find at the larger festivals. The Firegathering Festival is a 3-day not-for-profit event during the 3rd weekend of May. Ideally situated on some beautiful farmland half-way between London and Brighton, the festival is a celebration of performing arts in a lovely outdoor setting.

The entertainment throughout the weekend spans live music , DJs, cabaret and we also have educational workshops and a healing space. The ethos for the event is participation, collaboration and to provide a stage for some really fantastic upcoming artists. We aim to involve people in a gathering of like-minded souls with a fun and friendly atmosphere. We think we’ve created something really special, offering an experience you just can’t get at the larger commercial festivals.

Highlights of last week included an unexpected visit from my sister, Shones, on the lash with her work chums; an excited bloke who told me, “when you played The Beatles, I almost wet myself”; a trio of female, American backpackers and their look of horror when I didn’t have any Bon Jovi; a chap getting a stern reprimand from management for shinning up one of the pillars; playing the Kissy Sell Out mix of GWEN STEFANI’s ‘Wind It Up’ for the first time; a high five with Pablo during The Cult’s ‘She Sells Sanctuary’ that almost broke my hand [as it should be]; and an over-enthusiastic lady, who insisted that there should be a photo of me and she would put it “everywhere”, whatever that means.

:{LITTLE ILL Warehouse Party}: Saturday 3rd May

LITTLE ILL kenneth boieeee

:{LITTLE ILL Warehouse Party}: www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=8839874021
with Prolix, Pigeonhold [Gid], Spencer & Ruby Rocks, The Smackmaster Generale, Lebrosk, Dr Wood & Nurse Borrett and, introducing, MICHAEL MORPH and JULIAN COALESCE.

SATURDAY 3rd MAY [Bank Holiday weekend], 8.30pm-very late
@ SECRET WAREHOUSE, N17 [location revealed nearer the time]
tube: Tottenham Hale [12 mins to King’s Cross, Victoria Line]
train: Tottenham Hale [12 mins to Liverpool Street, every 15 mins]
bus: 41 - 123 - 192 - 230 - N41 - N73 - W4
http://uk.geocities.com/busroutes/placesindex/tottenhamhale.htm

:{SIX MONTHS LATER…}:
Following our monster mash-up Halloween party :{LITTLE THRILL}: we’re back once again with the ill behaviour to bring you a massive May Day Bank Holiday bonanza, :{LITTLE ILL}: Unplanned Afternoons is collaborating with several promoters to prescribe a Doctors and Nurses party so surgically unsound, the General Medical Council will be quaking in their scrubs. This is no accident, it is an emergency - we want medical, surgical, in-patients, out-patients, matrons, midwives, neurology, urology, psychiatrics, anesthetics, obstetrics, gynaecol… everything.

:{SPECIAL GUEST SONIC SURGEONS}:

MICHAEL MORPH:
www.myspace.com/michaelmorph
We’re indecently excited to welcome this DJ and producer, with recent releases on Pure Mint, Sound Of Spectrum and Cubic. He’s also a highly experienced proctologist and renowned for his warm hands. His very fat indeed new single, ‘The Crowd C’est Beau’, has been remixed by LongRange (Phil Hartnoll from Orbital) and Aquasky:
www.pure-mint.com/artists/michaelmorph.html

JULIAN COALESCE:
We’re also thrilled to the bits to welcome the legendary Julian4play, aka Julian Coalesce. Back in the day, the Coalesce parties wrote the book on high quality, underground musical madness and Julian was at the centre of the maelstrom. Resident DJ at the splendid Rude Not 2 parties in Brixton, Julian’s music is hard to label; a sense of freestyle dance constantly being pushed to new and astounding levels by a highly experienced and fearsomely talented DJ.

In addition, we’ve got EIGHT DJs from Pigeonhold, Unplanned Afternoons, Passion and more, playing a mentally unstable mixture of music, which probably ought to be sectioned. Starting with 60s and 70s rock and pop, Motown, 80s pop trash and indie, moving through house, breaks, electro, funk, disco and ending up in a straight-jacket. Anything to get you off the gurney and dancing, waving your bed pans in the air like you just don’t care.

The exact location will be revealed nearer the time, but we’ve been diligently searching for a great warehouse venue and have found one of the finest north London can offer. There will be not one, but TWO rooms of tunes, an unnecessarily huge, £20,000 turbo sound system, a fully functioning bar, visuals, projections, cloakroom, medical check-ups from our friendly staff and cab numbers to ensure you all return to your wards safely (although you won’t make it back before lights out). No restrictions - smoke where you like, dance where you like, do what you like. Rather conveniently, there’s a public holiday on Monday 5th, so you won’t need to consider calling in ’sick’ on the Monday, due to an overdose of fun. And, for those that know Nikki ‘Dr’ Wood, it also happens to be her birthday weekend, so come and help her celebrate her *cough* 26th birthday (once again). Dr Wood will also be making her DJing debut with Nurse Borrett and partying in her own inimitable style. And, yes, this involves glowsticks. Big, throbbing ones, with their own pulse. Oooooh, Matron!

So, if you’d kindly step behind the screen and take your clothes off, we’ll be right with you. Don’t worry, we’re trained Doctors and licensed to ill.
