:{LOVE MUSIC HATE RACISM}:

On 30th April 1978, the infamous Anti Nazi League/Rock Against Racism carnival took place, with a march from Trafalgar Square to an 80,000-strong carnival in east London’s Victoria Park. The Clash famously performed with Sham 69’s Jimmy Pursey, as did the Tom Robinson Band, Steel Pulse and X-Ray Spex. The event was an iconic moment, both for the anti-fascist movement of the time, and in UK music lore. It politicised many for a lifetime to come. LMHR will be marking the 30th Anniversary of the RAR/ANL carnival with events around the country.

A stone’s throw from Churchill Square, The Hampton attracts a lot of regular faces, yet its stylish, Scandinavian-style ’70s décor is a long way from a standard, English, locals-only boozer. The beer garden is a particular attraction; a daytime sun-trap that’s equally comfortable in the evenings thanks to halogen heaters. They serve a fabulous pub menu as well as a Sunday roast, while the drink selection is augmented with Harveys and a good range of wines. The Hampton has free wifi access and you can always do a self-portrait to add to the ones on display from various regulars.
